Snaith Salad Growers Ltd is a former Land Settlement Association site which in May 1983 became a grower co-operative.

The business is controlled by a board of directors which is made up of four grower members, a General Manager and a Company Secretary. Current membership is 17 (all Assured Produce members) with a production area totalling some 65 acres of glass plus an area of un-covered land for Summer time use. Members are spread from Brentwood in the South to Neasham (near Darlington) in the North.

The majority of our produce is now leafy salads, mainly Round, Curly, Cos, Gem and Chinese leaf although we do produce a limited amount of Celery, under glass and outdoor in the Spring and early Summer.
Our primary customer is Asda, although we do have small accounts with Somerfield, Co-Op, Budgen, W. Pauley, Winners and a small panel of market customers.

Our packhouse is new purpose-built with vac-cooling and cold-store facility to accommodate some 180 pallets. Our B.R.C accreditation is grade “A”, audited annually by Efsis.

Kemp Herbs first started trading 27 years ago at Kilverstone, running a traditional arable farming enterprise of 306 ha on the light sand / sandy loam of the Breckland Heath area. Approximately 18 years ago we started to do trials with various herbs suited to our light sandy soil, to supply various fresh pick, and frozen markets. In 2003 with the entire farm down to growing herbs, it was decided to change the trading name to reflect the nature of the business and Kemp Herbs was born.

Still farming the home farm of 306 ha, with additional land hired in from neighbouring farmers to facilitate the growing of herbs on contract to Frozen Herbs. A large proportion of the enterprise is geared towards the fresh market, with herbs drilled in a bed system on a weekly basis, facilitating a continuous home grown supply through out the summer season of Basil, Coriander, Red Chard, Red Mustard, Wild Rockette, Fenugreek, Mizuna, Pak Choi, Tat Soi, Redina, Spinach, Flat Leaf Parsley, Curly Parsley, and Sorrel, as well as the perennial herbs, Chives, Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Oregano, Marjoram, and Mint.

We supply all of the above un-washed to our customers who wash and pack product for their own outlets. However, we can supply product washed, or washed and chopped. The viability of new crop/varieties is continuously under review according to our customer’s requirements.
I also have direct contact with growers in Israel and Spain for winter supply of most products.

Valefresco is a very young company formed by two family businesses pooling all their resources together.

The four young directors are second generation growers who between them have over 60 years of Market Gardening experience and are ready to embrace the future.

Since winning the Salad Growers of the Year in 2009 and moving to a new 680 acre farm near Stratford-upon-Avon the company has gone from strength to strength.

The farm crops are grown for the processing industry across the UK. With a large range of whole head salads, baby leaf spinach, chard and wild rocket, the focus is very much in supplying high quality products for the growing UK demand. A range of other crops are also grown on the farm for rotation purposes to ensure sustainability of the land.

The Evesham base has a 10 acre glass unit which grows leafy salads to extend the summer season and cherry tomatoes in summer.

To ensure continuity of supply, a 25 acre polytunnel unit producing year round baby leaf salads and oriental veg has been developed.
